Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Ethics

General Description

Although not new in the developed part of the world, the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and ethical leadership are making first steps in gaining popularity in developing countries, with Armenia being not an exception. Nowadays many Armenians can hardly explain what constitutes to be a good corporate citizen, which is quite often confused with engaging in charitable activities. It is obvious that any for-profit entity is mainly concerned with earning and accumulating wealth, but the current worldwide trend is that this is not the only determinant of their existence and long-term success. More and more businesses realize that they do not operate in a vacuum; continuous interaction with different stakeholders is critical, with serious considerations for the environment, economically vulnerable populations, and the society as a whole.

In light of the above, it is therefore paramount to raise ethical competence and integrity standards of local managers for them to succeed in today's competitive and highly demanding world. With this in mind, the given training is aimed at familiarizing the audience with the theoretical framework for corporate social responsibility and business ethics, addressing the issues of its practical application, and exploring its contributions and limitations to the society.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Ethics

Training

    7. Factors behind successful implementation of CSR activities
    8. Greening of management
    9. Managerial ethics
    10. Social entrepreneurship
    11. United Nations Global Compact

The training will be conducted in an interactive manner, including presentation, discussions, and short exercises. The presentation printouts will be distributed during the training.

The training will be delivered by Armen Ghalumyan, who has been the Director of Civic Development and Partnership Foundation since September 2012. He holds Master’s degrees in Information Technology Management from the Central European University Business School based in Budapest, Hungary (graduated with distinction), in Business Administration from the American University of Armenia, and in Engineering from the State Engineering University of Armenia. Currently he carries out his PhD studies in ICT Management at Telecom Ecole de Management, a highly ranked public business school in France. Armen’s diverse research interests cover topics ranging from the close interlinkage between CSR and the nation's sustainable development, to the analysis of policy and regulatory implications on market competition and overall national competitiveness. In addition to his rich educational background, he possesses considerable professional experience in both non-profit and for-profit sectors, occupying middle-to-senior level positions in a variety of functional areas. Last but not least, Armen is the author of two articles based on his research findings and a contributor to the EBRD's 2012 report on Electronic Communications Sector Comparative Assessment of 31 current and prospective countries of the Bank’s operation.
