Non-Profit Board Development

General Description

This training is addressed to governance and executive bodies of non-profit organizations, which are interested in developing involvement of Board members and increasing Board effectiveness. The training is based on the credo that effective internal governance system and practice are a must for effective activities of a non-profit organization.

As a result of the training the participants will:

  • get acquainted with specifics of non-profit Board organization and management, 
  • be able to define and implement specific and realistic Board functions, 
  • acquire knowledge on tools for developing Board activity effectiveness and increasing involvement of Board members, 
  • learn to develop effective links between Board and Staff, 
  • be able to plan and implement effective Board meetings.

Training topics and methods

The training covers the following topics: 
• What is the governing body of a non-profit organization, 
• Legislative ground of governing body/ Board, 
• Board objectives, risks and benefits, 
• Types of organization’s governing body, 
• Boards in Armenian reality: successful cases and lessons learnt, 
• Board functions: 
o Defining Board functions, getting agreement and motivation, 
o Defining individual roles and tasks of Board members, 
o Designing Board-related organizational structure. 
• Board activity coordination: 
o Board policies and procedures, 
o Planning and monitoring Board activities, 
o Board communication with staff, director, and members, 
o Routine activities of the Board: development based on successful experience. 
• Board development: 
o Involvement of new Board members, 
o Planning and implementing board development activities. 
• Board and Fundraising 
o Involving the Board in fundraising activities: local success stories and  international practice

The training is conducted in an interactive manner, using methods of presentation, individual and group work, exercises and discussions.

Training Duration and Price

The duration of open (announced) training is 12 hours; the fee is 30500 per person (without VAT). The duration of ordered training is defined on the basis of client needs and preferences. The cost for one hour of ordered training is 12000-14000 AMD (without VAT).
